MANUFACTURING IoT — the more precise title for a subpart of Industrial IoT (IIoT)

Why the “Industrial” term in IIoT is misleading.

The field of IoT is commonly separated in two definitions:

  • INDUSTRIAL IoT (IIoT)
  • CONSUMER IoT

From my point of view, the term Industrial IoT (IIoT) is misleading in the context of discrete manufacturing, production line and shopfloor context.

Industrial IoT covers all the “enterprise” topics - not only industrial production context but also construction machines, elevators, ships, heavy industry and much much more. To dissolve this kind of double binding I started to use (and in some concerns already coined) the term MANUFACTURING IoT.

When asking google for Manufacturing IoT, there is no single result.

This is why I decided to name our elunic AG
The Manufacturing IoT company 🤘
